What Is Microneedling?
Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) is a newer treatment used to improve the appearance of fine lines, acne scars and the skin’s texture, tone and color.
Microneedling tightens the skin of the face and neck. This new therapy will reduce pore size and fine lines, as well as soften both traumatic and acne scars. This treatment improves the condition of your skin with very little “downtime”.
This is accomplished by creating controlled micro-injuries which stimulate increased collagen and elastin production, and allow for optimal absorption of topical products.
What Are The Benefits of Microneedling?
Reduction in the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, improved skin tone and texture and softer, younger-looking skin with fewer signs of aging. Collagen Induction Therapy can help improve the appearance of uneven skin tone, acne scars, traumatic scars and stretch marks.
Why Choose Microneedling With SkinPen?
What Areas Can Microneedling Treat?
Microneedling with SkinPen treats all parts of the body. The most common areas of treatment are the face, neck, arms, hands, legs, abdomen, and back.
How Should I Prepare For A Microneedling Treatment?
- Keep your skin clean of cosmetics and sunscreen for the day
- Do not have sunburn on the desired areas for treatment
- Make sure you do not have any active breakouts or lesions.
What To Expect During Microneedling
A sterile cartridge-tip containing 12 tiny micro-tips is used during Collagen Induction Therapy (microneedling). We apply a topical numbing gel for approximately 30 minutes until the patient is fully numb. Next, in a single motion, the pen will be gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding in one direction until the entire treatment area has been covered. The procedure takes 30 to 120 minutes depending on the size of the area treated.
What Does Microneedling Feel Like?
Have you ever had sandpaper rubbed across your skin? That is what microneedling feels like. While some areas are more sensitive than others, the speed of the reciprocating cartridge tip makes the treatment more comfortable. (For the most part it’s very relaxing, although sensitive in some areas)
What Is Recovery Like After A Microneedling Treatment?
Immediately after the treatment, you will notice a bright redness to the skin. On average, patients are red for 2-4 days. Some patients heal completely in 24 hours.
How Many SkinPen Microneedling Treatments Will I Need?
Most patients to receive a series of 3 treatments spaced about 6-8 weeks apart. For patients with concerns about deep wrinkles, advanced photo-aging, stretch marks or acne scars, it is recommended to receive 6-8 sessions at 6-week intervals.
When Will I See My Microneedling Results?
Patients notice an immediate “glow” to their skin. Visible changes to the skin develop over the course of several weeks. Results can continue to improve up to 6 months after the treatment as collagen production continues.
Who Is a Candidate for Microneedling Treatment?
To undergo microneedling treatment, you must be considered a candidate first. The ideal candidates for microneedling are people who are looking to improve their overall facial complexion. Whether it’s to eliminate wrinkles, achieve an even skin tone, or get rid of acne scarring, a microneedling treatment will benefit patients who are in overall good health, are non-smokers, and have realistic expectations about their results.
If you are someone who currently has active acne, a skin infection, or a bleeding disorder, this treatment may not be recommended for you. During your consultation at Elite Plastic Surgery, we work with each patient, assessing their current skin goals and medical history to determine whether they can benefit from microneedling treatment.

Besides common side effects such as tenderness or redness, risks such as excessive bleeding or infections are very rare. At Elite Plastic Surgery, patients can feel comfortable and confident knowing that any side effects will be easily managed under our care.
What Things Should Be Avoided After Microneedling Treatment?
After your microneedling treatment has been done, it’s important to be diligent about following aftercare guidelines to protect your skin while it is sensitive and still in a healing state. To avoid complications during your recovery, we recommend patients avoid the following immediately after their microneedling treatment:

- Avoid wearing heavy makeup for the first 24 hours after treatment
- Avoid touching your face with unwashed hands
