Through this spring and summer, we’ve all been stuck mostly indoors. No dining out. No trips to Hawaii. There aren’t even any Tigers’ games. Dumb virus.
So, we’ve all been watching the entire Netflix assortment of TV shows and movies. We’ve been doing 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzles of kittens. And we’ve not been spending a thing.
Maybe that would make this a good time to take some of those dollars and invest them in your aging eyes.
The skin around the eyes shows the signs of aging as early as any part of the face. This is because the skin in this area is among the thinnest on the entire human body. Sun damage and personal habits such as smoking take a toll. Plus, fat deposits, loosening skin, and other issues can leave a person with droopy, sagging, puffy, wrinkled skin around the eyes, and with it, a much older appearance.
Blepharoplasty, eyelid surgery, with our four plastic surgeons at Elite can take a decade off the age of your face. Eyelid surgery removes excess skin and fat and tightens the underlying muscles as needed to return a younger, more rested look to the eyes.
Is eyelid surgery right for me?
Unlike most cosmetic surgery procedure, eyelid surgery is popular with both women and men. Drooping eyelids are equally irritating to both sexes. More and more men are having this surgery. Often, they tell us they feel as if they need to rejuvenate their eyes to keep up with younger counterparts in the office.
Eyelid surgery
Eyelid surgery can be performed on both eyelids or singly, depending on your personal condition. Because of this, surgery can run anywhere from 45 minutes to two hours.
Blepharoplasty is a delicate surgery that involves small incisions. In upper eyelid surgery, our surgeons make a small incision in the natural crease of the eyelid. This conceals any scarring. The muscle tissue is tightened, fat is repositioned, and excess skin is removed. We are especially careful about removing fat to not give the patient the hollow look that you see with failed procedures done elsewhere.
In the lower eyelid, the incision is usually made just below the lower eyelash. An alternative location can be making the incision inside the lower lid, removing any visible scarring. Excess skin is removed to lessen wrinkles, bags, and general puffiness in this area.
Recovery
Eyelid surgery does not entail a difficult recovery. When you return home after your surgery, your eyelids will be covered with light gauze. You will be given an eye lubricant and a cold compress. Bruising and swelling is minor, particularly if you are diligent with the compress. After about one week, your stitches are removed and most of your healing will be done. There will be some residual swelling at times, but you’ll already love the way your eyes look.
